It’s that time of year again! Summer has arrived, and the living’s easy…that is, unless you have to start summer school on June 9.

Now that you have a break from school for a few months, have you had a chance to explore some of the local attractions? There are plenty of opportunities to get outside for a change of scenery from the everyday monotony of sitting in classrooms. Kent and the surrounding areas have something to offer everyone, so get off those couches and go explore!

Outdoor Adventures

Take a day outside to hike at Towner’s Woods or pack a picnic. They offer multiple picnic shelters and have a gazebo to take a break in while the beautiful scenery wows you. Feeling ambitious? Bike the almost 20-mile round-trip trek from Kent to Ravenna on the PORTAGE Hike & Bike Trail, which goes through Towner’s Woods. Or for those wanting a little more relaxation, take a break at Lake Pippen and admire the landscape.

Maybe your preferred workout is a little less…well, work. If you’re looking for a little retail therapy or wanting to give your wallet a workout, the Aurora Farms Premium Outlets may be a little more your speed.

Classic Summer Nights

What says all-American summer nights more than an evening of baseball? With tickets starting as low as $5, there are games throughout the summer to see the Akron RubberDucks. It’s just a 30-minute drive to Akron, so get your friends together and make a night of it. Groups of 10 can get reduced prices on tickets, and groups of 20 can rent a luxury suite for as low as $30 per person! What better way is there to watch baseball than in first-class style?

Local Eats

If you’re looking to stay a little closer to home, make sure to check out Bar 145 just 5 minutes down the road. They offer live music most Fridays and Saturdays during the summer and occasionally during weeknights, as well. Bar 145 is a great hangout but, most importantly, they have awesome burgers. Whether you’re looking for a basic burger with the go-to standard toppings or are ready to step out of the box and try an apple pie burger, this place has it.

At Home Fun

While Kent, Kent State, and the surrounding areas offer a wide variety of activities to get you out and about, don’t forget you can live it up here at Campus Pointe, too! The summertime weather gives us the perfect excuse to throw a pool party — stop by on May 28 and join us for an afternoon of fun in the sun and intense volleyball!

What are your plans for summer? Are there any favorite hot spots of yours that didn’t make the list? Be sure to share them so others can join in on the fun!
